CDRAC Joins MCR2030: Paving the Way for Resilient and Sustainable Cities

We are thrilled to announce that the Centre for Development Research & Communication (CDRAC) is now an official participant in the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative! This significant milestone opens up new opportunities for us to extend our expertise, services, and innovative tools to a global platform, directly contributing to the vision of building more resilient and sustainable urban environments.

What is MCR2030?

MCR2030 is a global initiative aimed at ensuring that cities around the world become inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by the year 2030. It aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11): "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable." The initiative is also closely tied to other critical global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda. By participating in MCR2030, cities commit to enhancing their resilience against various risks and challenges, thereby safeguarding their citizens and their future.

Our Role as a Supporting Entity

As a Supporting Entity within MCR2030, CDRAC will play a pivotal role in aiding cities on their journey along the Resilience Roadmap. This roadmap is designed to guide cities through different stages of resilience building, from raising awareness and developing strategies to implementing actions and monitoring progress. By offering our specialised knowledge and practical solutions, we will help cities to:

Assess their current resilience status: Using robust assessment tools, we will assist cities in identifying their strengths and areas for improvement.

Develop and implement resilience strategies: We will provide tailored strategies that address the unique challenges faced by each city, ensuring that they are well-prepared for future risks.

Monitor and evaluate progress: Our expertise in monitoring and evaluation will help cities track their progress, adjust their strategies as needed, and achieve their resilience goals.

Why is This Important?

Urban resilience is more critical than ever. With the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters, climate change impacts, and other urban challenges, cities must be equipped to protect their populations and infrastructure. Participating in MCR2030 enables us to collaborate with cities worldwide, sharing best practices and innovative solutions that can significantly enhance their resilience.

By contributing to this global initiative, we are not only supporting cities in their efforts to become more resilient but also advancing our mission to foster sustainable development. This collaboration embodies the spirit of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and underscores our commitment to building a better, safer future for all.

Looking Ahead

The journey towards urban resilience is a collaborative effort that requires the engagement of all stakeholders, including governments, organisations, communities, and individuals. At CDRAC, we are dedicated to driving this collective effort forward, ensuring that cities are well-equipped to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.

We look forward to working closely with our partners and the cities in the MCR2030 network, leveraging our combined expertise to create resilient urban environments that are inclusive, safe, and sustainable. Together, we can make a significant impact and achieve the ambitious goals set out by SDG11 and other global frameworks.

Stay tuned for more updates on our activities and progress as we embark on this exciting new chapter with MCR2030!
